japanese-english games translation

I worked in-house at Nintendo of Europe as a Japanese to English translator for two six-month contracts in 2008 and 2009, going from initial translator training through to carrying out US to UK adaptation, translating in-game text and manuals then being appointed as an editor responsible for proofing and training other translators.

I have also adapted games for new markets, which ranged from converting US English for use in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand to rewriting storylines and altering characterisation for the target audience, which included identifying and resolving potential cultural, religious, race and discrimination issues and compliance with PEGI ratings. I also worked as a localisation project manager with SDL International and Xerox Global Services before becoming a full-time translator.

I also translate IT and technical material and work with the Japan Society on their Japan-UK Live! school exchange programme. I am an Associate of both the Chartered Institute of Linguists and the Institute of Translation and Interpretation and a board member of J-Net, the ITI Japanese Network. See Arline Lyons Translation for more details.
